Teeter Bakery – Great Pastries in East Perth
On arriving in Perth recently on a Friday afternoon we immediately caught up with a number of friends who unanimously recommended that we make as a high priority a visit to Teeter Bakery in East Perth. Their other recommendation was to visit the Saturday morning market at the Perth City Farm where all the vegetables and fruits are grown without the use of poisonous sprays.
Therefore, the next morning we headed out early to visit both as they are quite close to each other in East Perth.
When we arrived at Teeter Bakery there was a long queue where most in the queue were regulars who lined up every Saturday
When we got to the head of the queue we could see why – perfect pastries and cakes that both looked perfect and as we were to confirm later when we returned to our apartment also tasted just as we expected – perfect!
First to the queue. Do panic if you see a queue snaking down the footpath outside. We joined a fairly long queue but it didn’t take very long for us to reach the door and be able to move inside (6 people only inside).
The venue is very easy to find as it has a very recognisable wall on one side as you can see below.
And it has the queue from the other side!
Once we got inside Teeter the choice was simple – we wanted one of everything, however we needed to be restrained so we just ordered three items.
We were able to enjoy a new savoury danish garnished with leeks and vibrant green nettles with bechamel sauce. The nettles were sourced from the very close Perth City Farm which lies just across the busy freeway that divides the two.
After deciding on two savoury pastries we also eyed off the cakes in another cabinet and one of the offerings was just too tempting to pass over.
Who could miss a pandan chiffon cake. When we are back in Tasmania we often go to the Agrarian Kitchen Kiosk where they serve a range of sweet and savoury items to take home or to enjoy with a cup of coffee on the lawn outside. They often have a chiffon cake available, if so we order it.
And so we ordered the huge slice of pandan cake and manufactured an excuse to have dessert with our lunch! It was sensational.
They also have a range of drinks if you want to linger on the chairs outside.
