Pétrin Couchette – Great for bread and snacks

Pétrin Couchette – Introduction

Pétrin Couchette is a busy boulangerie and coffee place right next door to one of our favourite restaurants in Marseille, namely La Mercerie. The location is not a surprise as both venues have the same ownership (namely the highly energetic team of Julia Mitton, Harry Cummins, and Laura Vidal)!

They produce wonderful bread natural sourdough here and the pastries are also very good. And there is very good coffee due to the involvement of Rob Hazell who was previously at one of our favourite coffee places in southern France, namely Deep which sits close to the old port and not too far from this venue.

If you are feeling like a very good coffee to have with one of the pastries then there are tables and chairs where you can sit outside in the sideshine while enjoying them.

And it is not only pastries that you can enjoy while sitting in the sunshine. They make exceptionally good pork and kimchi sandwiches, for example. Or, if you are more of a traditionalist you might prefer the ham and cheese toastie.

You can check on their opening hours on their Web site here in case they have changed any times to the ones below.

In 2025 we again visited Marseille and we had a most enjoyable snack here at lunch time the day after we had made our compulsory visit to have lunch at La Mercerie!

Pétrin Couchette is part of the La Mercerie group and the La Mercerie restaurant which we have written about on this site here.
