Planque – London restaurant
We have known Jonathan Alphandary for many years. First from his time in Australia and his many trips to Tasmania and then meeting up with him in Paris and Geneva and now in London.
We were therefore anxious to visit his relatively new restaurant called Planque (in English Hideout) as soon as possible after arriving in London. The venue is in the east London suburb of Haggerston in a beautifully renovated building (check out the cobalt blue space) with an open, airy dining area and a number of other spaces including some for members.
The stoves are the domain of Seb Myers who is a very talented chef who is able to make vegetables star attractions on the plate.
The other star feature of the restaurant is the dazzling array of wines, with many of them natural and many of them very rare.
The best way we can explain what we ate is to simply show you the dishes we were presented.
A tiny scallop dish (with sea lettuce tartelettes) as an appetiser.
Carlingford oysters with rhubarb dressing that was very fresh and very tasty.
A beautiful vegetable dish.
This was an amazing dish based on very fresh and delicious tomatoes and cured bream.
A small seafood bite each. Delicious!
More seafood in this lobster rice dish. It looked spectacular and tasted brilliant.
Planque delivers again. Veal sweetbreads with sea beet were stunning.
Our first dessert with ice cream covered in meringue!
A beautiful hazelnut-based dessert (also with the old citrus variety called cedro) similar to a Mont Blanc. We always love these desserts, especially when someone else makes them!
