Mak’s Noodle: Great food
Mak’s Noodle Ltd in Hong Kong is an excellent, authentic noodle and dumpling house where you will be warmly welcomed and provided with every assistance in choosing your dish of top quality noodles and superb wontons.
The owners originally moved from the China mainland to Hong Kong in the 1940s and worked at the Golden Dragon Restaurant for many years.
They originally (in 1968) established a small food stall in Gilman Street before moving to the one of the current locations (which is the one we always go to) in Wellington Street.
Most of the locals we talked to recommended Mak’s Noodle. It is not just a place that tourists are pointed towards like the infamous floating restaurants. It is a restaurant that is treasured and well-attended by the locals.
It is interesting to read their Web site and see that they still believe that the Mak’s Noodle restaurant recreates the noodles as made in their native Guangdong region of China.
Here is what they say:
A bowl of wonton noodles with egg and shrimp served on a blue-and-white porcelain plate, paired with light tea. It embodies more than just a masterpiece of beautiful color, aroma, and flavor. It is also a way of showing respect and dedication to tracing the origins of traditional Guangdong cuisine.
We can thoroughly recommend the Mak’s Nam min which is beef brisket served with noodles, or Gam yung which is long cooked beef tendons served with excellent wontons and noodles.
For a less challenging dish try the superb pork dumplings with won tons and noodles (won ton sui gao min) this is one of the best dishes we have tried on our many visits to Hong Kong.
You might like to round out the meal at Mak’s Noodle by ordering a dish of green Asian vegetables which have been steamed and served with oyster sauce.
If you are unsure of what to order, simply ask. The waiting staff are very helpful.
