We had heard a lot about Kinkeads before we visited Washington DC so we were keen to try it to see how it stacked up against similar restaurants we have visited. We were able to book on the same day and we arrived on time and were immediately shown to our table. The waiter brought us drinks promptly while we surveyed the extensive menu. For starters we opted for tuna tartare 'Jalisco' served with avocado, and for our second dish, crab cakes with mustard sauce and corn pimento relish. The tuna tartare was fresh and spicy and the crab cakes were large and were complimented nicely by the relish. However, neither dish rose to great heights. For main course we had a beautifully cooked whole 'Yucatan-style' yellow tail snapper with spicy cabbage salad, lime relish and two salsas. This was a lovely piece of fish that retained its moistness and flavour. The other dish of grilled squid with creamy polenta was good without being memorable. A dish of sautéed spinach that we ordered as a side dish never arrived. So, while we think that Kinkeads is a good spot for fresh, well-cooked seafood we can't see that it is any better than dozens of other seafood restaurants in other cities in the United States. Worth a visit if you are in Washington for a few days.
