This tiny restaurant in a side street in rural Blackheath is serving some of the best food in the country. In fact, two of the dishes we tried there on our first were in the top ten dishes we had eaten that year. A slow-roasted (in the wood fired oven) dish of blade steak was absolutely perfect with a rich, deeply-developed flavour. The chequer-board ice cream (which we had tried before at Oasis Seros) is still as good (and as mysterious) as ever.We visited again with much expectation in March, 2004. Everything was just as good as before. An entrée of glazed duckling sausage with pickled beetroot was almost a perfect dish. Then a main course of rib of beef that had been braised with lime leaf, lemongrass and coconut milk, showed that this establishment really demonstrates mastery of long-braised beef dishes. And the chequer-board ice cream was just as good as before!
