The Food Lovers' Cookbook Collection
River Café Italian Kitchen by Gray and Rogers
Rose Gray and Ruth Rogers are the highly successful owners of the River Cafe in London. But their talents are not just confined to the restaurant kitchen. Their range of publications is impressive and their television series are compulsive viewing. They are great communicators and great teachers. All of their books are worth reading.
Rise Gray died after a long battle with cancer at the age of 71.
The book details a collection of recipes that they cook at their justifiably famous River Café in London. We thoroughly enjoy eating the refined Italian food based on perfect ingredients that are presented simply.
Each recipe is written very carefully and the ingredients are set out clearly and precisely. We find that the recipes always 'work'. They are packed with flavour and sometimes employ surprising techniques.
However, to get the most out of this book you should read the introductions to each section where additional information about key ingredients or important cooking techniques are discussed.
If you only try one recipe from this book try the stunning Spaghetti with Lemon - it is sensational.
We also like River Café Cookbook Green which looks at seasonal vegetables month by month.
