The first time we visited Chicago the only hotel in the city centre we could get rooms was the gigantic, sprawling and fairly unlovely Hyatt. It was therefore with great relief that on our next visit we were able to secure rooms at the charming, relatively small Tremont on the other side of the river, just off the famous Golden Mile (Michigan Avenue) shopping precinct.There are 118 rooms which, in general, are not large but they are spacious enough for a short stay and they are very comfortably appointed. You have CD players, video cassettes, an in-room bar and a very well-appointed bathroom.The staff are gracious and helpful and seem genuinely concerned to ensure that you have a pleasant stay.The location is also important. It is literally only one minute from one of the best shopping precincts in the world.
